Carl’s Deli, located at 2836 Observatory Avenue, offers premium sandwiches, homemade salads, quiches, lasagnas, pastas, soups, and sweets. Carl’s also offers select catering made with fresh ingredients, a wide selection of imported beers and fine wines, and provides exceptional customer experience.
With 80+ years of history, and generations having stood contemplating the menu of sandwiches on Carl’s permanent chalkboard, Carl’s is a staple of Cincinnati’s Hyde Park neighborhood and attracts customers from across Greater Cincinnati. The local mainstay and award-winning delicatessen is family owned and operated by Owners Sydney Turnbull and Cameron Kurz, and General Manager Kristin Fults, and provides customers with the same personal touch in quality and service as it has since 1938.
In April 2022, Turnbull, Kurz, and Fults purchased Carli’s Deli from proprietor Anne McManus (of the Arnold family). The Arnold family created one of the most unique, charming restaurants in Cincinnati and Turnbull, Kurz, and Fults are eternally grateful for the opportunity to carry on its legacy.
Sisters Turnbull and Kurz frequently visited Carl’s while growing up just a few blocks up the street. Whether it was grabbing a ‘sammie’ for lunch or a pretzel rod for a snack—or even the Curry Chicken Salad (Kurz’s favorite)—Turnbull and Kurz have always appreciated Carl’s role as community pillar and they are committed to providing customers the same level of service as they have always come to expect.
As members of the family owned (The) Honey Baked Ham Company, Turnbull and Kurz are well-versed in the industry and attribute their business acumen to their grandmother JoAnn Kurz, their grandfather S. George Kurz, and their children. Turnbull and Kurz are also grateful for their partner Fults and her expertise to help guide Carl’s into its next chapter. As a former owner of four different restaurants in Louisville and (?) with a background in culinary arts, Fults is well-equipped to shepherd Carl’s into the future by providing customers the genuine local neighborhood deli experience Carl’s has to offer without forgetting its rich history.
